【摘要】:Thisfire-test-responsestandarddeterminesandquantifiessyntheticpolymermaterialflammabilitycharacteristics,relatedtothepropensityofmaterialstosupportfirepropagation,bymeansofafirepropagationapparatus(FPA).Materialflammabilitycharacteristicsthatarequantifiedincludetimetoignition(tign),chemical(Qchem),andconvective(Qc)heatreleaserates,masslossrate(m)andeffectiveheatofcombustion(EHC).Thefollowingtestmethods,capableofbeingperformedseparatelyandindependently,areincludedherein:IgnitionTesttodeterminetignforahorizontalspecimen;CombustionTesttodetermineQchem,Qc,m,andEHCfromburningofahorizontalspecimen;and,FirePropagationTesttodetermineQchemfromburningofaverticalspecimen.DistinguishingfeaturesoftheFPAincludetungsten-quartzexternal,isolatedheaterstoprovidearadiantfluxofupto65kW/mtothetestspecimen,whichremainsconstantwhetherthesurfaceregressesorexpands;provisionforcombustionorupwardfirepropagationinprescribedflowsofnormalair,airenrichedwithupto40%oxygen,airoxygenvitiated,purenitrogenormixturesofgaseoussuppressionagentswiththeprecedingairmixtures;and,thecapabilityofmeasuringheatreleaseratesandexhaustproductflowsgeneratedduringupwardfirepropagationonaverticaltestspecimen0.305mhigh.TheFPAisusedtoevaluatetheflammabilityofsyntheticpolymermaterialsandproducts.Itisalsodesignedtoobtainthetransientresponseofsuchmaterialsandproductstoprescribedheatfluxesinspecifiedinertoroxidizingenvironmentsandtoobtainlaboratorymeasurementsofgenerationratesoffireproducts(CO2,CO,and,ifdesired,gaseoushydrocarbons)foruseinfiresafetyengineering.Ignitionofthespecimenisbymeansofapilotflameataprescribedlocationwithrespecttothespecimensurface.TheFirePropagationtestofverticalspecimensisnotsuitableformaterialsthat,onheating,meltsufficientlytoformaliquidpool.ValuesstatedareinSIunits.Valuesinparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandardisusedtomeasureanddescribetheresponseofmaterials,products,orassembliestoheatandflameundercontrolledconditions,butdoesnotbyitselfincorporateallfactorsrequiredforfirehazardorfireriskassessmentofthematerials,productsorassembliesunderactualfireconditions.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardstatements,seeSection7.
